The Application Of Genre Analysis And Phraseology - 836 Words

The application of genre analysis and phraseology has great potential to inform this kind of research and practice, enabling us to receive a more thorough understanding of how language is used in a particular context and/or in a particular genre. In this study, the textual analysis included inter-rater reliability analysis performed by two university instructors to code a portion of the texts. The analysis reached a satisfactory level of agreement in the four internal sections in the main study. In addition, the selection of multiword combinations to be included in the pedagogically useful list, apart from a corpus-based approach relying on frequency of occurrence of the lexical units, with instructors’ insights come into play, and therefore the task is much facilitated. These procedures demonstrate a thorough perspective on conducting textual analysis to receive in-depth and specific information, verify the outcomes, and ensure that the results of this study are accurate and reliable. 10.3.2 Pedagogical implications As for novice writers and graduate students, knowledge concerning rhetorical organisation of texts as well as their communicative purposes identified and phraseological patterns obtained from this study can effectively improve novice writers and graduate students’ understanding on academic reading and writing RAs in general.
